RESCUE MEAD!
Our friends at the gluten-free booze made from honey producing Colony Meadery wanted to make a new Ricky mead for the playoffs. We suggested putting dogs on the cans when we saw this, and just stole the idea (thanks Fargo Brewing and Motorworks Brewing). Stealing is wrong, but when you do it to save animals, it's mostly fine.
Rescue Mead is the newest mead from Colony Meadery, and it features long time shelter residents at the Providence Animal Center and Brandywine SPCA, Otto, Rex, Vito, Zenubian, Star, Lola, Archie, and Noodles (seven dogs and one cat). A portion of the proceeds will benefit both shelters.
Limited to 200 cases, Rescue Mead will be available online from the Meadery (use code RICKY for $5 off your order) on March 16th, and at the Allentown Taproom on March 20th, as Spike and Rebel make their first trip up. The first 76 cases ordered will get a poster autographed by the pets of the Colony Meadery owners. That's a real sentence right there.
Our podcast is about basketball, but that just pisses us off, so it's nice to finally just shift to a dog podcast with a hint of gluten free alcohol. It's great to partner with Colony, a local business doing good, and two shelters who are doing great things.
“We were thrilled to be able to steal this incredible idea from the breweries who came up with it,” said Colony Meadery CEO Greg Heller-LaBelle. “We know seeing these faces on cans will help these good boys and girls find their forever homes.”
“We love the passion the folks at Colony Meadery have for rescue,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO. “It’s creative initiatives like this that make the biggest difference in raising awareness for adoption and saving more lives.”
“Providence Animal Center is honored to have our pets featured on Colony Meadery’s cans,” said Justina Calgiano, Director of Advancement & Public Relations at Providence Animal Center. "This sort of collaboration helps us reach a larger population of potential adopters, ones who may have never considered adoption. In essence, these cans are truly lifesaving.”
Providence Animal Center will also be providing puppies for the VIP happy hour at Flip The Switch, which might end up being a OKC Thunder game watch party as we cheer for a pick. We never said whose switch we wanted flipped. Tickets going fast and are available here.
