The Opening Tip
Hello and Happy Thursday, it's the Corner Three, sponsored by:
"If you take away the Sixers, the NBA bubble is a perfect product" - My buddy Mike (Sixers fan)
Update: He didn't take any in the first two seeding games, but he attempted one in the third one against the Wizards before separating his kneecap from the rest of his body so I really don't know what the hell is going on.
Once again (!!) The NBA announced that no player participating in Bubble Ball Redux has tested positive for Covid-19. So we march on toward the playoffs of the Mickey Invitational where either a date with the hardest worker in the room, Jimmy Butler and his merry band of dudes you hate (except Bam, love Bam) or The Fighting Marcus Smarts. I'm getting too old for this shit.
Wear a Mask!!!!
Let's get into it!
MERCH!
Good News/Good News: You guys acted fast, as usual, and we're already sold out of adult Ricky masks courtesy of our friends over at the Buddha Babe. There's no need to fret, there are still some Youth sizes left (if you have a smaller head), and we're working on a new color/design for next week.
MERCH PROMO CODE: SHOOTATHREE10 (this is for 10% off any non-sale item in the Merch Store. It's good till 8/19 when it changes again to keep you on your toes). PS: This is not good for Buddha Babe merch.
This Week In The Pod
The Sixers came back, and brought the greatest hits with them baby! The guys talk restart, Shake/Jo dustup, Horford (still) sucking and answer some awesome mailbag questions. They also brought three non-banned Ringer folks on for a Heat Check reunion.
Charity Spotlight
Final week to help our friends at The North Broad Renaissance, a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to provide communication, guidance and assistance to businesses, community groups and others who are (or may) do business or development or other activities on North Broad Street, from City Hall to Germantown Avenue. As they, like all of us, continue to navigate the waters presented by the past 6 months, they could use our help! Read more about the organization, its current projects and how you can help here.
Oh Yeah,The Sixers
This fucking team. That's it, have a great weekend.
We've seen alot in the past three seeding games. The good guys (I use that term loosely) are 2-1, but boy does it feel like 0-3, and rightfully. They let up 53 points to TJ Warren and followed that up by allowing 44 fourth quarter points to the worst Spurs team we've seen since I had braids.
Some Observations:
Joel Embiid is READY. Through three games the big fella has amassed a ridiculous 98 points and 41 rebounds and one promise to slap the shit out of Shake Milton. I think the question about what Embiid we're getting has been answered, so far atleast. We can only hope that the eater of worlds, capable of being the best player on the court and in a series Embiid is here to stay, or atleast for as long as Ben Simmons is in the Himalayas rehabbing.
Tobias Harris has looked really good and continues to be a takeover in the second half guy. I'd love to see him shoot more three's but I feel like I'll be making that request until the day he retires. He's just always going to be a guy who prefers to back his defender down from the elbow rather than get set for a top of the key triple and we'll have to make our peace with that or bully him into shooting more. Whatever works. He'll no doubt be asked to do even more in Ben's absence so only time will tell what the final product looks like.
Shake Milton had about as awful a game as you could have against the Pacers, hit the game winner against the Spurs and absolutely looked much more settled in against the Wizards. What does all that mean? We don't know shit about Shake yet except he won't shy away taking a big shot and he most certainly will stand up for himself. You know what? That's good enough, let's go.
Ben Simmons (pre subluxation) & Josh Richardson both struggled mightily on the defensive end, a surprise to us all. Ben will be in the Swiss Alps in search of a new knee so it's up to Josh to figure it out. Defensive effort in general has disappointing to say the least because to the naked eye (sports jargon) many of their breakdowns are effort based. TJ Warren got whatever the hell he wanted every time down the court and man was it frustrating to see that no one seemed to be dialed in or care enough to take it personal that he was lighting them up like a Christmas tree.
Zo is Brett Brown on the hot seat?
Before the dislocation heard around the Delaware Valley I'd had said hell yes. Now? maybe 50/50
The Rest From The Best
My entire Twitter timeline whether the Sixers are up 20 or down 10 is existential dread and it feels great to be back! Mike O'Connor, always cool, always level headed, is here to let us know just how concerned we should be with what we've seen (and not seen) so far.
As the mad dash to the O'Brien trophy and gold plated Mickey ears has begun, Andrew Unterberger wants you guys to know that the time for this damn team to win is right NOW. AU also got Team Ricky together for a roundtable on our best predictions for the Sixers bubble start and playoff fate. It was fun! (I already want to change one of my predictions)
Sixers Adam, Team Ricky adolescent and official North Philly resident in two weeks (TU What up), has the good, bad and ugly from the Sixers bubble restart against the Pacers
Peace, Love and Process
