The Opening Tip
Hello and Happy Thursday, it's the Corner Three!
We are currently living in a world of doomscrolling, pandemic death updates and general social unrest, and YET, I still find time somewhere, to despise this basketball team and it's handlers. Please clap for me, actually please pray for me.
PLAYOFF Jerami Grant. Even when it went wrong, we were right.Â
THE GANG IS (STILL) ALL HERE #EverybodyGottaGo
Let's roll!
THE LAST FEW MASKS
We've got about 30 white masks and 30 black masks left. You can get them from the Philly owned Buddha Babe. They're soft, handmade, washable and weird as hell. The good news is when you buy one, we donate one to a kid in a Philly school who is in need of a mask. Tina (who owns Buddha Babe) does it up right.
This Week In The Pod
Did you know you can watch them all on a new Ricky YouTube channel? It's got video versions of all of the pods, plus highlights. If you like that sort of thing.
Our guys get into forgetting Jimmy Butler (Never!) How Mike D'Antoni, an official front runner for Sixers coach, would groove/not groove with Ben and Jo, and welcome, sigh, a Lakers fan.Â
And then last night, Mike's quest to be verified on Twitter, and Scott O'Neil has a BOOK coming out?
TRUE PHILLY BOOZE
If you're gonna drink, you might as well drink Philly drinks. Stateside is born, raised and lives in Philly. Look at the bottle, all snug in its Ricky hat. Get the huge 1.75 litre MAGNUM bottle of Stateside Vodka. All vodka, no gluten. They've got Philly delivery and pickup at their website, and you can also get MAGNUM at Fine Wine & Spirits and all those spots in Jersey and Delaware. We've also been made aware of sitings in Maryland as well. We love Stateside.
Charity Spotlight
The Black Women in Sport Foundation was founded in 1992 with the purpose of increasing the involvement of black women in all aspect of sports, including coaching & administration. The BWS of Philadelphia in recent years has extended beyond that and works to involve young girls and boys in programs throughout the region. Take a look, and read more about how you can support them!
Oh Yeah,The Sixers
On the front office "Evaluation":
We're now 55 days away from the NBA draft. No coach, no direction and no real sense of urgency it seems. I'm fine with being lied to, they have lied and will continue to lie to us, but for some reason I felt like they were finally embarrassed enough, finally bullied and shit-talked and publicly berated enough to finally act, to finally do what was (somewhat) right. You just extended Elton Brand, he's very highly thought of in league circles (gee I wonder why), sure whatever, keep him, but holy shit man, grow a pair and tell people who are no longer serving purpose in that office, that their services are no longer needed. Good night.Â
On the coaching search:
Billy Donovan just said yes to the Bulls vacancy which actually is great. I think he'll do really well there and Zach Lavine will grow under him until it's time to ship him to the east coast in exchange for a Horford & M*****e package. That leaves the Sixers job most likely down to a two man race between Mike D'Antoni and Tyronn Lue. Nothing really matters if they (Ironically) decide that the one thing they do run back is the same front office, but for shits and giggles, Ty Lue, is probably the guy and I'm great with it.Â
On the draft:
In the next few weeks, I'll start sharing with you guys and gals some prospects who strike my fancy and realistic options for all 5 of the Sixers picks (4 of which they'll probably sell to help repaint Josh Harris' helipad or something).Â
The Rest From The Best
You can vote on the finalists for our autographed pair of Embiid Ones. It's a good time to practice voting.
It'ssss begining to feel alot like...2018? Ah shit. Mike O'Connor has some thoughts on the current state of the front office, the coaching search, and how things are looking eerily familiar.
Andrew Unterberger, probably the most optimistic of Team Ricky, last week argued for running it back and this week wants us to shut the fuck up about Jimmy Butler and would could have been. Good for him
Sixers Adam took time away from virtual TU to tackle some really good mailbag questions, Joker vs Joe, potential ways for the Sixers to add pieces to the Simmons/Embiid duo and more!
Peace, Love and Process
That's my time, yall. Be good, read a book and check in on your friends
