Oh Yeah,The Sixers
Problem Solving 101 with the Philadelphia 76ers. A very weird and unsavory past 5 games that put some glaring weaknesses in the spotlight so here I am doing some cause and effect, problem solving etc. whatever you want to call it to help our guys get ready for what's shaping up to be a mad dash for a top 2 seed in the East.
Problem:
The Sixers don't shoot enough three's because their best player is a post player, their second best player just. won't. shoot. Their third best player has shown stretches of being willing to do so but has recently reverted back to taking long 2's and dribbling air out of the ball, player number 4 has a slower release and is more of a set shooter and also is recovering from Covid-19, and player number 5 is up and down so who knows.
Solution:
There honestly may not be one (this year) at least. Short term would just call for Tobias Harris, Danny Green and Seth Curry to really start chucking the shit out of the ball (we'll get to bench upgrades later so for now we'll just stick to the starting 5). That's way more easier said than done, again considering their two best players prefer operating in close quarters/averted from the three point line. This generally may be something you put up with for as long as the Embiid/Simmons marriage exists so for now, our prayer needs to be for more Green/Curry/Harris chucking.
Problem:
Boy this bench is down bad and most recently has just flat out fucking sucked. Shake Milton being out with injury has really debilitated that group as Furkan Korkmaz has been cold shooting, Mike Scott has been on the struggle bus pre and post injury, Tyrese Maxey looks like a rookie again and Dwight Howard has committed three fouls from the time I started writing this.
Solution:
A stretch 5/power forward, a point guard and a wing with a short memory and very quick trigger from 3, or two of the three.
Road Ahead
Simmon-less Sixers went up 29 then naturally tooth and clawed their way to a 5 point win over the Rockets last night. Joel Embiid and that very sore back hit 31 points but I'm sure he'd certainly admit it wasn't his best outing. The gang welcomes future Sixer Zach Lavine Friday night and heads down to Tampa for two against future Sixer Kyle Lowry and the Raptors. Huge next couple of days for future Sixers!!
