The Opening Tip
Happy Thursday, It's the Corner Three!
Jerry Colangelo is turning over control of Team USA Basketball to Grant Hill and I'm assuming he did so via skype and then ran away.
Let's Roll!
You've tried alcoholic seltzers before. They're FINE, but they're not as good as everyone says, until this one. Stateside Vodka Sodas are just built different. They are literally built different. Just fruit juice, vodka, and seltzer water. That's it. Get a party back now and give them a try.
There is no added sugar, no artificial colors or flavors, no gluten, nothing. There is no weird aftertaste that sort of makes it taste like cough medicine. And they come in four great flavors, orange, pineapple, black cherry, and lemon-cucumber mint. An eight-can party pack that has two of each is just $19.99, as long as you're 21 or older.
Oh Yeah,The Sixers
Question, what's your favorite season? Draft season!
The NBA Draft is in 2 weeks, followed shortly by the start of free agency. In the case that the Philadelphia basketball 76ers keep the 28th pick, I present to you, the concise board of guys we love and need to avoid losing 18 and 26 point leads in the playoffs, long name for a list but we're workshopping a new one.
*This list is null and void in the event of a Ben Simmons trade (duh)
1. Tre Mann
The first thing you see in any Tre Mann scouting report is that he can dribble and shoot, and I know we joke alot but I'm seriously not interested in any guard/combo guard/wing who has questions about either of those two. This team as is is so handicapped by a lack of creators and ball handlers.
2. Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland
I'm probably not rooting for any one player harder in this draft. A local kid, and someone who battled through an incredible amount of personal tragedy to make himself into an incredible basketball player. On the court, Bones is as good as they come. His VCU squad was robbed of a chance at the March Madness tournament due to COVID restrictions but his previous body of work certainly speaks for itself. Hard-nosed, able to move without the ball and put it on the floor, can nail it from three and not at all afraid to get his hands dirty on defense. He's as ready as they come and if by some miracle he drops to 28 I will cry tears of Maxey past.
3. Trey Murphy
A fucking 50/40/90 guy at UVA and stands at 6'9 (NICE). He's probably not ready to create his own shot but you can never have too many guys who can shoot and you'd probably be OK making a bet that he could progress into an adequate shot hunter eventually.
4. Chris Duarte
He's old as shit in basketball prospect years at 24 and the oldest player in the draft, but for a team ready to contend and win and looking for instant contributions that isn't a bad thing I suppose. Duarte is instant offense and more importantly for our purposes, can get a bucket when asked and shot 42.5% from deep last season at Oregon. Not much to dislike about him.
Prefacing this entire thing and not falling in love with any one guy or guys (and I'd caution you all to do the same) because I feel like there's a very strong chance that two weeks from now that 28th pick won't even belong to the Sixers. In this league, draft picks lose so much worth after there's a player attached to it so we should know pretty soon how things are going to shake out at the end of this month.
The Rest From The Best
Mailbag Time! Sixers Adam hits on some Simmons trade returns, Backup Center and potential draft targets/options.
Sixers don't have much in the way of cap flexibility (at the moment) but regardless, there's money to spend. Mike O'Connor has a few options and scenarios for Morey and Co. to use up that MLE.
