When I moved to Chicago in 2006, having never had a pet in my life, I adopted my cat Alabama from the Anti-Cruelty Society. Alabama passed away in 2021 at 18 years old, may my little girl rest in peace. About nine years ago, my wife and I rescued our dog Rebel from Aruba with the help of an organization who does such things.
My life has been forever changed by introducing Alabama and Rebel to it, and our most recent foster failure, Scotchie. This is not hyperbole, it changed my life. So much so that one of my true passions is animal rescue (it changed my life in many other ways but those are different stories).
Every year since 2018 The Ricky has had a run/walk/hang team for Providence Animal Center’s Bark In The Park, their annual 5K run or 1 mile walk or just hang out event. PAC (located in Media) does fantastic work and I am proud to be associated with them. Since 2018 we have raised almost $100,000 in donations and sponsorships. We’ve always got a huge team, once over 100 people. And it’s always awesome to see everyone at the event.
Bark In The Park is October 26th, 2024 at Rose Tree Park. We’d love if you join the team. If you join the team and raise at least $100, you get the special Ricky shirt (in addition to the PAC prizes).
JOIN THE TEAM HERE. If you can’t join, donations are great (but no shirt sorry).
Our goal is to have 100 members and raise at least $20,000.
The shirt this year is designed by the incredibly talented Aliana Thompson. She did a truly fantastic job and Rebel has told me personally that he loves it. Thanks to my friend Ben for showing off all of Aliana’s work for the last couple of years and making me aware of her. If Aliana ever decides to tattoo people I’ll be first in line.
Again, please join the team. Please raise lots of money. And give your pets a hug for me.
