Zo Ranks His 10 Favorite Sixers (Non-Draft Pick) Player Additions Ever
All-Stars, Hall of Famers, role players - we had 'em all!
10. Robert Covington
From the G-League to one of the best 3&D players in the league for a few years, and a crucial part of a Sixers team that had just started to turn it on from loveable try-hards to team with actual expectations. I hate that his knees have begun to fail him, but happy he’s enjoyed some success and job security for most of his NBA career.Â
9. Steve Mix
The Mayor! He took a backseat when Dr. J arrived on the scene, but he managed a great career during one of the most successful Sixers eras and has always had damn good knowledge of the game.
8. JJ RedickÂ
Being a general jerk (and possible failure to stop human trafficking) aside, he was an incredibly successful and important player during his time here and ironically wound up forming quite the formidable two man game with Joel Embiid. Good luck, coach!
7. P.J. Tucker
Look, this is my list, alright?Â
6. PatBev & Marcus Morris Sr.
What a fun few months it was with these two. Sucks that Pat feels like he was lied to before eventually being traded but the business is the business and he seems to have landed on his feet so he’ll be all right.
5. James Harden
Weird to say but bear with me — it feels like his tenure was so much longer than it actually was and I think it’s because he was supposed to be a Sixer twice before he actually became one, then he wound up flaming out in the playoffs then Daryl Morey is a liar and then bye bye. Weird and imperfect, but man when he was engaged and locked in, that team was as good as any.Â
4. Elton Brand
What’s funny about this one is that depending on age/Sixers acumen, you might only know him as the one who got Jimmy and Tobias in the same season.Â
3. Jimmy Butler
I loved Jimmy, still do. Happy they didn’t trade for him this time around but still, love him and upset that the team with him never saw its full potential.
2. Paul George
Without even putting on a full uniform yet, but it’s true. NBA players don’t pick here, they rarely ever do, for various reasons — and obviously because Philly isn’t LA or NY or Houston or Miami, and guys are just now finding out how great and skilled Tyrese Maxey is. But he chose us, he started the domino effect, and the floodgates have hopefully opened for good.Â
1. Julius ErvingÂ
There was no other choice. Semantics aside, we’ll consider this a signing. The man who changed the trajectory of a franchise in one decade, and again in another. Arguably the greatest Sixer ever for his 11-year Hall of Fame career and championship in 1983 — then fast forward to two weeks ago, where he hopped on a plane across country to make sure Paul George knew how serious the Sixers were about securing the rest of his prime.Â
Zo, I think you really (really) need to add Moses to this list.
When we got Harden I was so excited I had to pull off the road and park. It doesn't matter what people say now but we were hyped when it happened.
